SIX MONTH SMILES SHORT TERM ALIGNERS FROM £28 A MONTH

Six Month Smiles short term orthodontics at Didsbury Dental Practice, Manchester

For some people, the length of the time traditional orthodontic treatment takes and the thought of wearing metal braces deters them from having treatment. Now a new technique known as short-term orthodontics is the perfect solution for patients requiring minor tooth realignment, who want straighter teeth as soon as possible.

Six Month Smiles short-term orthodontics is an advanced technique, which uses clear brackets and almost invisible wires or clear plastic retainers, depending on the individual case, to gently move misaligned teeth to their desired position, giving you straighter teeth in a shorter time.

The appliances themselves are virtually invisible meaning that this is a perfect treatment to correct slight overcrowding, or for those who have previously had orthodontic treatment but whose teeth have shifted back over time. Best of all short-term orthodontics is usually completed in around 6 months, depending on the case – around a third of the time taken for traditional orthodontics.

This treatment is not appropriate in every case, which is why we assess each patient individually to see if they are suitable. During this assessment, our Six Month Smiles dentist will discuss which options are best for your orthodontic needs.

Straight teeth in less time using Six Month Smiles® clear braces for adults

Six Month Smiles® is a unique system that uses clear braces to gently straighten and align the teeth that show when you smile in just six months.

Many adults spend their entire lives covering their mouths when they laugh, smile or talk because of the appearance of their teeth. They feel stuck because they do not want to wear metal braces for long periods or are concerned that other corrective teeth straightening procedures could be too invasive or expensive.

FAQs

There is a possibility you can obtain orthodontic care through the NHS, however, this is approved on a case-by-case basis.

If you do obtain orthodontic care through the NHS, it is extremely unlikely that Six Months Smiles braces would be available as an option. This is because the NHS tests orthodontic eligibility via a rating system known as ‘IOTN’. Scoring a 4 or 5 would make an under 18 eligible for orthodontic treatment through the NHS, anything below 4 means you would not qualify for orthodontic treatment by the NHS.

We have the following alternatives;

  • Invisalign®

  • Alias lingual braces

  • Damon Braces

The Damon braces are a discreet option that features low brackets that don’t stain, making them comfortable and efficient, they also offer a layer of invisibility as they gradually adapt to the tooth’s natural colour.

Using a unique slide mechanism Damon braces reduce pressure on your teeth, allowing them to move comfortably to their intended positions, thereby reducing the aches and pains associated with regular metal track braces.

As many people who have had traditional braces will tell you, one of the most cumbersome and frustrating issues they face is with their elastic or metal ties. Whether it’s a case of the ties snapping and needing to be replaced or causing discomfort, this can be a major factor in people choosing not to get braces.

However, an extra benefit of Damon braces is the lack of elastic or metal ties, making dental hygiene much easier as the absence of the ties negates the accumulation of plaque in the areas that the ties usually are in.

Damon clear braces are used for the correction of the upper teeth, if your treatment requires the braces for your lower teeth, metal Damon braces will be used instead.

Invisalign® is the most discreet option that we offer when it comes to realigning your teeth, achieved by using a clear plastic mould over your teeth known as an aligner. The aligner is custom-made for your teeth based on an impression we take at your initial consultation, which is then changed every 2-3 weeks in accordance with the realignment of your teeth.

The benefit of the Invisalign® aligner, as opposed to fixed metal braces, is that the user is able to enjoy food and drink more freely, whilst also not requiring wiring as metal braces do, and is removable whenever the user chooses, and of course, invisible.

Invisalign® can be used to treat quite a few misalignment issues with your teeth including:

  • Gap teeth

  • Overbite

  • Underbite

  • Open bite

  • Crossbite

  • Crowded Teeth

The length of Invisalign® treatments is subject to the patient. On average treatments can go on for 12 months with this style of invisible braces, however, it is possible to see results in as little as 2 weeks.

Similar to Six Month Smiles, there are no downsides to using Invisalign® as long as the user follows the guidelines set by their orthodontist

Lingual braces carry the same features as normal braces, except they are fixed to the back of your teeth on the tongue or side of the teeth. Because they go behind your teeth, they are nearly invisible.

Due to their low profile, and discrete nature, lingual braces are an excellent cosmetic treatment for people who are looking to straighten their teeth, without anyone noticing the actual braces in the person’s mouth.

They are called lingual braces because the word ‘lingual’ refers to the tongue, near it, or the side towards the tongue. Regular braces are fitted to the front surfaces of the teeth.

Typically, lingual braces are made of stainless steel, titanium, or an alloy made of gold.

Lingual braces are suitable for people of all ages, including children.

Only dental specialists can install lingual braces because it requires a high level of training.
