The Role of Orthodontic Dentistry in Correcting Bite Problems

Bite problems can really affect a person’s life. Not being able to comfortably eat can be exhausting and could even lead to other issues further down the line. Being able to properly correct bite problems as well as just help people’s confidence is hugely important.

Fortunately as well as traditional metal braces there are now so many other options out there including but not limited to:

  • Invisalign aligners
  • Alias Lingual braces
  • Damon clear braces
  • Six Month Smiles short-term aligners

In this article, we will discuss these different types of braces and how they work and hopefully set you one step further on your journey to correcting your bite problem in a way that works for and is comfortable for you.

Invisalign aligners

Invisalign is used by patients all over the world to straighten their smiles. The system uses clear aligners made using SmartTrack, a specially designed flexible plastic created for this treatment.

Your orthodontist will custom-make your aligners. They will start by constructing a 3D scan of your mouth and will then create a bespoke plan for you of how each tooth should be positioned and moved with your Inbisalign.’

The Invisalign tray will be replaced for you about every fortnight or your dentist could suggest an alternate time frame. This is part of them creating your plan for you and they will discuss this with you.

You can even get just a partial set if that is all you need. A partial set is designed only to move the front teeth.

What is the success rate of Invisalign?

Some people overlook Invisalign as they are sceptical and it can sound a bit too good to be true. We understand this, so, what actually is the success rate of Invisalign liners?

Invisalign has a 96% success rate and a huge majority of patients report that their results are fantastic after their treatment with Invisalign. Patients love the clear liners and their virtually invisible nature, it means you can feel fantastic both during and after your Invisalign journey.

How much is a full set of Invisalign?

Usually, Invisalign costs anywhere between £1,500 and £5,500. You will need to talk to your orthodontist or dentist to find out what it will cost you exactly.

At Didsbury Dental Practice we offer clear aligners/invisible braces from £3950. We can also offer them at a monthly fee.

Alias Lingual Braces

Another type of braces that can be a great choice for those who wish to be discrete are Alias lingual braces. These braces are probably the most hidden you will find. Instead of being on the front of your teeth, these braces are placed behind your teeth making them completely unnoticeable.

Lingual braces are made using non-allergenic gold using modern computer technology for the best results and maximum comfort throughout. To make your braces you will first have an impression taken off your teeth. This is then sent off to a dental laboratory and is used to make your custom braces.

Alias lingual braces treatments usually take 18 to 36 months which of course depends on the amount of work that the braces are doing. Similarly to traditional metal braces, lingual braces work by using continuous but gentle pressure to slowly relocate the teeth to the correct position.

Although this treatment takes longer than some others it is still a fantastic option as they are the ultimate secret braces and by hiding behind your teeth nobody will ever even know they are there unless you tell them.

Alias lingual braces are usually opted for by adults but are also a valid option for children if they so choose.

Damon Clear Braces

Damon clear braces are a type of orthodontic treatment that can straighten your teeth. The system uses a slide mechanism that takes away some of the pressure that is put on your teeth and allows them to move into the desired position much more comfortably.

The way these braces are designed takes away the need for any metal ‘ties’ or elastic which makes your dental hygiene much simpler and easier to maintain. The brackets are also low profile and do not stain as they do not attract or collect plaque.

Damon braces are almost completely transparent and will actually adapt to the natural colour of your teeth for discretion. This treatment takes fewer visits to your dental practice and is a far shorter process than what you would experience with traditional braces.

These braces can come in clear or if you prefer they can also come in metal. Usually, the Damon clear braces are used for the upper teeth and metal Damon braces on the lower teeth. This, of course, will depend on your specific wants and needs. So, if you choose to get Damon braces make sure to fully discuss the pros and cons of both with your dentist when making any decisions.

As a treatment for straightening your teeth, Damon braces are a great clinically proven treatment option that doesn’t usually require the extraction of any teeth.

This system could be the right method for you and your teeth so make sure you thoroughly check out this option so you will have more of an idea if it will work for you.

Six-month smiles short-term aligners

Six Month Smiles is another system that gently moves your teeth into the correct position using a type of clear braces. And sometimes they work their magic in just 6 months.

The clear braces used by Six Month Smiles use clear brackets, practically invisible wires or sometimes clear plastic retainers. What exactly Six Month Smiles treatment would entail for you would depend on your individual case so that the best and quickest method for you to get your desired smile can be found.

These braces are as stated in the name for the short term. Along with being almost invisible, this makes the perfect for people with slight overcrowding or people who have had braces before but whose teeth have begun to move back. Although not always the case, these treatments are usually completed in around 6 months which is around a third of the time you would have traditional braces.

Unfortunately like all treatments, Six Month Smiles short-term aligners will not be suitable for everyone but your dentist should be able to suggest to you an alternative that could work well for you.

Six Month Smiles short-term orthodontics at Didsbury Dental Practice, Manchester can cost you as little as £28 a month and could help you on your way to solving smaller bite problems quickly.
